Default Aatxe Weaknesses

I have looked around for this (I used the for dummies manual for searching)...
I was wondering if anyone knows the weaknesses the aatxes and other denizens of the underworld.

I have a mesmer that I have used with spells that ignore armor (primarily), but was trying to come up with a different build that could take them down.

I have tried many warrior skills but they do almost no damage (unless I inflict conditions), I assume that ranger bow attacks would be similar, I know monk and necro skills that work wonders...

To try a different path to killing the UW monsters...
Will they even get hurt by air, fire, water, earth magic?
What about the damage from traps, is it lessened or does it do the full listed damage?

any ideas would be great. I will post later with some updates on what works/doesn't.

traps do dmg that it says it will do
aatxe are pretty hard to kill because they regen health even while your attacking them
+with there high armor normal attacks barly touch them
the best way to do dmg is with armor ignoring skills and putting weakness on aatxe so he wont hurt your team as much...
cause ive seen 1 whole team taken out by just 1 aatxe :P

Use high damage spiking and degen. Think of aataxes as Warriors (well, they are) with high armor. They are definitely largely unaffected by melee and arrows.

e.g.
E/Me
Obsidian Flame (raw damage)
Crystal Wave (raw damage)
Ward Against Melee (protection) /Blinding Flash/enervating Charge
Conjure phantasm (degen)
Crippling Anguish (snare + degen)
Empathy (consistent damage)

N/*
Spiteful Spirit (popular consistent damage)
Shadow Strike (Large armor ignoring damage when aataxe at 50% or above HP)
Vampiric Gaze (Low somewhat spammable life stealing skill)

R/*
Flame Trap (degen+damage)
Barbed Trap (Degen/snare)
Dust Trap (protection)

I have taken my fire ele down when my guild needs a hand. We had the 55 monk my infinergy ele and an air spiker and an SS. Our ss said that he didn't feel all that useful with us there blasting away.

While it isn't strictly necessary to have any eles with you, it helps keep the guild working together.

Meteor Shower + fireball makes very quick work of smites. Attaxes go down pretty well as well but take a bit longer. Coldfires don't like fire.

Sometimes Smites can get out of hand though and will be just about impossible to kill if you don't take them out quickly.

Everythting that's been said so far sounds good to me. Only thing I can think of that *could* help is Distortion and Signet of Midnight. Both could be useful here.

Just... don't phisically attack the smites. Bad things will happen. If you don't Shatter their enchants first, that is :3

The only way a warrior will hurt an aatxe (or any warrior enemy for that matter) is through their skill's +damage bonuses. That, or Riposte and Deadly Riposte at 16 tactics.

you'll be doing minimal damage while taking a lot from their riposte + deadly riposte. not worth it.

Killing an Aatxe is easy using Illusion Magic, spells such as Ineptitude, Clumsiness, Conjure Phantasm, Phantom Pain and Fragility for damage, Imagined Burden to slow it down, Soothing Images to prevent it using adrenal skills, Distortion to dodge attacks.

Ofcourse you would probably die 1v1 with an Aatxe, but all these skills when used in a group will take down any melee fighter.

Lots of feedback...Thanks

I can solo it easily with the invinci Mesmer build but that is kinda, well, dull (good for making some quick cash though).
Thanks again for all the info.
